The Pencil Skirt... timeless, classy, uber sexy and yet very appropriate. Wear it to work, wear it to a dinner date with the girls, wear it to the bookstore. Wherever I go with it, I love the way it hugs my feminine curves and flatters my temperamental derriere.
ANIMAL PRINT
The animal print gives an outfit that bold statement. Whenever I don animal prints, I usually skip the accessories to avoid looking like a cast member of Jerseylicious. If I do opt for a pair of earrings, I stick to simple diamond studs or freshwater pearls. Animal print gets flack for making its wearer look gaudy and tacky if overdone, so I suggest basics and neutral-colored tops and footwear to complement the print.
Below are two of my picks, and what affordable finds they are!
The ASOS Tailored Animal Print Pencil Skirt (left) can be purchased at the ASOS website for $23.31. They have only sizes 2 and 4 available (apologies to my curvy lady friends!) because the price and fit can't be beat! I love the high-waisted wearability that can hide my panzon (which is still pretty prominent 3 months after giving birth). I also can't pass on the FREE shipping and FREE return within 28 days. The Victoria's Secret Leopard-print Pencil Skirt (right)is found at the VS website for a cool $29.50. The print and quality look expensive, and the skirt is available in sizes XS to XL. I already purchased mine!
Compare these to the Lauren by Ralph Lauren 'Kaley' Pencil Skirt (below, left) available at the Nordstrom site for $109(!) and Moschino Cheap and Chic's Leopard Print Pencil Skirt (below, right) from net-a-porter.com on "sale" for $227.50 from the regular price of $325(!!!). If you are into designer (and I do love me some Moschino), float your boat by all means! But to me, a confident woman with her own stylish flair can pull the less expensive looks off with a sexy demeanor while saving herself some serious cash.

TWEED
Tweed, indeed! The material makes me look and feel smart. As with animal print, when I choose to wear tweed, I choose one tweed piece at a time. I love tweed blazers during the colder months, but springtime is here (it is anyway in southeast Texas), and I live for showing off my legs during the warm months.
As soon as I saw New York and Company's Tweed Pencil Skirt in Cabana Coral (left), I knew I had to have it. The seriousness of the material is balanced by the playful fraying down the middle and along the bottom of the skirt, and the color is just soooo this season. Available at the New York & Company website for $39.95, I consider this purchase a steal, without really robbing myself.
Express's Tweed High-Waisted Buckle-Back Pencil Skirt can be worn throughout the year and has a nice little detail buckle at the back for that sexy yet professional look. On sale at Express.com for $48.93 from $69.90, I also consider this a steal without breaking the bank.

For comparison shopping, check out St. John's Tweed Skirt (below, left) in Venetian Red for $595.00 at the Neiman Marcus website. Zac Posen's Tweed Pencil Skirt, available for $850.00 at Neiman Marcus also sports a fray detail. The description reads that the fraying cuts across the hips and waist for a slimming effect... however, it takes away from the validity of the price and material. I love Zac Posen, but not this skirt.

And of course, you can't go wrong with the classic basic black pencil skirt... every woman should own one!
What do you think of my affordable style suggestions this week? Would you purchase these finds?

The VS pencil skirt looks the hottest. I think I want it!
My personality doesn't fit the leopard print too much, but I like the grey express :)
