"Bright jeans make a splash in a sea of dark-blue denim." - Joie Rucker, Designer and Co-Owner, Rich & Skinny (via Marie Claire online)
In one of my earlier entries (Springing Into The Season Part 2), I mentioned that color-blocking is a big trend for spring and summer. I mentioned one must take extreme caution with this fad as there is a thin line between "chic" and "chump." If you still haven't gotten the art of color-blocking down to a science, what better way to practice than by wearing colored jeans?
If you still find yourself shy about trying the color-blocking concept but want to jump on the colored-jean bandwagon, I suggest starting off with a shade of blue dissimilar to the run-of-the-mill denim we are so used to wearing, like the one from True Religion (left). Blue isn't as bold as other colors would be because we all associate denim with the azure color, so a pair of jeans with a different shade plays it safe while still daring to run away from the pack of dark blue denims. The Cameron Jean in Turqoise is available at True Religion's website for $178.00. It features a relaxed boyfriend fit which leaves room for movement and activity (not to mention that food-filled summer picnic) and is lightweight enough to wear all day in these hot months. Dress it up or down for any occassion, or pair it with some chucks or sexy espadrilles. Enjoy free shipping and free returns for all website orders over $250.00 (for US customers only).
And once you get a taste of a pair of jeans in a different shade of blue...
Go just a wee bit bolder with the coral shade of Rich & Skinny's Legacy Zip Legging. On sale at the Rich & Skinny website for $130.00 from the original tag of $163.00, the pants have an 11-inch zipper on the sides of each ankle for a feminine yet edgy touch. Pair it with some peep-toe pumps to showcase your summer pedi or ballet flats if you're feeling low-key and girly. And since you just can't get enough of fads, on top of the color-blocking and the color-jeans, we have yet another trend you didn't even realize you were participating in: Jeggings! Jeggings are in essence leggings constructed from material made to look like jeans, but without the stiffness and restrictions. The material is elastic, but you still get the bells and whistles of a zip-up fly, belt loops, and rivets.
Take advantage of the site's ground shipping on all orders, which happens to be free for a limited time.
Are you ready to graduate to the bolder, brighter colors?

J Brand's 811 Skinny Jeans in Bright Green (above) is a neatly streamlined pant that is available at Bergdorf Goodman for $176.00. Worry not about flashing your goodies for the world to see when you bend over, since this mid-rise jean sits high on the hip. Wisely cropped at the ankle to eliminate bunching (perfect for short girls like myself), these pants scream "SUMMER!" then chugs a ice-cold lemonade afterwards.

Realistically, we all aren't fans of skinny or cropped jeans. Not everyone is made for such trends that calls for tall, skinny-legged, under-fed physiques, so it seems that these DG2 Boot Cut Jeans (above) are a perfect alternative for the shapely woman who likes to keep it all dignified (but still sassy). The jeans are available in SEVEN different colors at the HSN website for $49.90. The sizes range from 2 to 24W and is business casual enough to possibly wear at the office (if such an awesome, imaginary place that allows you to wear loud colors exists).
And then again, reality hits me. It's June, it's southeast Texas, it's crazy to wear pants in the summer. And that is why they also make colored jeans shorts!
Current/Elliott's Boyfriend Short (right) is a forgiving alternative to the trend that keeps humidity and fashionability in mind. It is sold at Revolveclothing.com for $147.00 and is available in the two colors shown. Ground and priority shipping are both FREE on US orders.
With this current trend hitting the streets and closets with brute force, I wouldn't be surprised if it continues on into the fall and winter! Get you a pair!
